The SNCF and industrialists have launched two projects for light, ultra-light battery-powered trains, with the aim of eliminating the old diesel railcars from small regional lines, and even reopening neglected local routes.
Rewarding successful examples of industrial, environmental and digital transition. The ‘Grand Est Transformation Prize’, held on 14 October in Reims (Marne), singled out ten projects by regional companies.
Code name: Draisy. Over the next two years, the Alsatian manufacturer Lohr and SNCF will be trialling this small means of transport on the Sarrable-Kalhausen line (Moselle), with the aim of bringing small rural railway lines back into service.
Whether for freight or transporting up to 80 people, the Draisy electric shuttle built by Lohr is of interest to the SNCF for little-used or currently closed routes.
