Not all the trains of the future will be speedsters loaded with hundreds of passengers. The increase in the number of major rail routes, driven by Europe in particular, means that we need to resurrect the idea of serving the whole of the country with small mobile objects that we don’t really dare call trains. ‘The current TER trains have between 160 and 200 seats and a low frequency: our aim is to get smaller mobiles on the road’, explains Carole Desnost, Director of Innovation and Research at the SNCF.
