Public transport operator Transdev and Alsatian manufacturer Lohr announced their partnership on Wednesday, which aims at developing a new autonomous and electric vehicle for public transport.
It is never too late to shift to a virtuous transport system. By using the existing railway network, every new rail motorway service, deliverable in eighteen months, allows to transfer trucks from the road to the rail, thus avoiding GHG emissions.
Designing an efficient transportation method is no easy task. A car with a single occupant is inefficient, but what about a bus with a single passenger? Yet this is the puzzle that every transport company has to solve, their vehicles being overcrowded during rush hours and desperately empty at off-peak times.
Electric mini-buses coupled together like a train, a "taxi-bot" without driver, a completely automated shuttle: manufacturers and public transport operators put their imagination to good use to come up with tomorrow's ecological mobilities, namely in peri-urban areas.
Self-service or shuttle mode. The 100% electric shuttle, created by Lohr, will operate between Strasbourg Railway Station and Strasbourg Wacken Exhibition Center from June 20th to June 22d, as part of the ITS European Congress (Intelligent Transport Systems).
